Meet Chelsea

Chelsea Ohh works as a software engineer at Bloomberg. Chelsea is responsible for leading a team that creates software so business professionals can see the most up-to-date data on the global capital markets and make trades.

Age 16

When Chelsea was a kid, she wanted to be a math teacher. She grew up in South Korea and attended a virtual high school, which meant all of the students would log on from their homes around the world. That experience, of having kids from all over the globe in a single classroom, really piqued Chelsea’s interest in technology.

Age 20

Chelsea always thought a career in engineering meant sitting behind a computer writing code all day long, but she soon realized that it’s a very social, collaborative career. She talks to her teammates all day long, working together with them to solve problems so data can be delivered at lightning speed to businesses around the world.

Age 25

Chelsea is an engineering team leader —a position she almost turned down because she thought it would take her away from the technical work she likes to do. She talked to her manager, realized this wasn’t true, and now gets to do the technical stuff she loves, in addition to building her leadership skills by managing a team.

Today

Chelsea says that if you like to solve problems, you can also be great at engineering. She explains that engineers get to build something from scratch and make it available to the world.

  1. SWENext DesignLab is an engineering engagement program for middle schoolers, high schoolers, parents and educators which will be held at three WE Local conferences in 2020. This full-day event will include educational sessions for students, parents and educators, and the SWENext DesignLab Community Engagement Challenge for students engaged in STEM.
